I must say the trip to Las Vegas is worth it even if you are just going for the food! We always get asked what we like to eat and where, and here in Boise, it is a very short list. In Vegas we found some amazing food! It was wonderful to go out to eat and have the meal be so delicious that is was actually worth what we paid for it. So since many of you will ask, here are our food reviews.
"Wolfgang Puck's"- MGM: A for food, B- for service.Wolfgang's had a wonderfully small menu. That usually means great food and a great quality of food. Ben had a roast beef panini on a sourdough baguette with Gouda cheese and horseradish aioli. It also came with hand cut and freshly fried potato chips. Yummy. He gave this lunch a A-. I had a wild mushroom agnolotti- much like a ravioli- it had peas, caramelized shallots, Parmesan and tons of garlic. Oh my God- it was the best pasta I have ever eaten! A+ from me. Next we tried the "Banoffe" Pie- banana and toffee- and the chocolate beignets. The pie was gross but the beignets were to die for. They came with a side of freshly made caramel for dipping and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yummy! They were my favorite dessert of the trip! Overall Wolfgang's was absolutely delicious, even though out waiter wasn't paying attention and had liked to talk to other employees incessantly.
"Nob Hill"-by Michael Mina in MGM: A+ for both food and service!!! Never before have we had such fantastic service. Plates were cleared and presented as needed. The food was timed perfectly as well as our drinks. I was wishing we had our own restaurant so we could steal some of the waiters away! I had chicken on top of a cauliflower and jus puree with a side of roasted cauliflower. It sounds simple, but it wasn't. Flavor hit you from all angles and it was fantastic! Ben had grilled short ribs- grilled over peach wood- with a green chili and ancho sauce with polenta cakes. His was "phenomenal". Never in my life have I heard him say that a food dish was that good. We also started with delicious salads; perfectly tossed in dressing with candied walnuts and a drunken goat cheese. Delicious! We ended our meal with the raspberry creme brulee and while it was a good attempt- I still think mine is better. If you go to Vegas- Nob Hill is a must try!
"Il Fornaio"- in the New York New York. Traditional Italian food. All we have to say is Boo! F-. Do not waste your money here! Even the salad was gross, how can one screw up salad?
"Bouchon Bakery"- in the Venetian. D. Very disappointed. Our pain du chocolate' tasted like rosemary and olive oil, the epi bread was so hard you couldn't chew it and the Madeline cookie was way to soft. This stop was a huge let down for me!
"Studio Cafe"- in MGM: B-. Just what one would expect from a local breakfast joint, though not as good as our Elmer's and twice the price. If you are just looking for a snack- there monkey bread was OK.
"P.J. Clarke's" in Cesar Forum Shops: F. You want a crappy burger and gross fish and chips, go here.
MGM Buffet- B. You can't go to Vegas without eating at a buffet. The MGM buffet is small but has a good variety of food, including a fresh omelet station and a carving station. While the food was OK, the dessert section came right out of the freezer. Everything was pre made. Bummer.
"Olives"- in Bellagio by Todd English. A+ for both service and food. We saved this for last stop on our trip since it was highly recommended. It was delicious! We had a selection of bread to choose from, a flat bread, foccocia and a roll with white chocolate in it. They were all wonderful!Next we started with two different salads and both were great. Then I had the seared halibut with a side of risotto. I am not normally a risotto girl, but this was the best risotto I have ever eaten, and the fish was seared perfectly! The whole dish was amazing. The flavors were spectacular. Yummy! Ben had a steak, of course, and it was delicious as well, even if he did keep stealing some from my plate too. We finished with a chocolate fall down cake and a hazelnut souffle. Both were wonderful and the souffle was cooked perfectly- which is not an easy thing to do. Olives was wonderful- a must go!! Sit on the balcony and watch the fountains if you can- so beautiful.

Of course a beignet would be the best at Wolfgang's. Too bad about the service tho. Very glad to hear about Todd English's place - Sounds like one I would really like. Ahhhh so much fun!!
Wow! How neat that you shared information on where to eat. I always have a hard time figuring that out when we go on vacation.
